In April, Austin and Ethan started taking piano lessons once a week after school. Their piano teacher is Yukino-Sensei (sensei means teacher), who is the wife of the principal of our kids’ school. She teaches them using the Suzuki method, which means that they learn by little steps and don’t move on to the next piece of music until they have “graduated” from the one before. Suzuki students all learn the same musical pieces and start out by learning several different versions of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, all with different rhythms. Yukino-Sensei is also teaching them how to read music (using do re mi instead of C D E, etc) and is helping them learn about rhythm. Both boys seem to enjoy their lessons and are pretty good about practicing at home (if I remind them, of course). 🙂
Here are some photos of a recent piano lesson.
