Learning While Cooking

For a change of pace, we decided to use part of our homeschooling time the other day to make choc-oat-chip cookies (chocolate chip cookies with oatmeal in them) together.  Since Austin is getting pretty good at reading, he was in charge of reading the recipe and both boys got to measure out the ingredients and dump them into the mixing bowl.  (Dumping is always a big highlight!) 🙂  They also used the electric hand mixer and put the cookies onto the tray for baking.  The boys often want to “help” me in the kitchen, but when I’m in a hurry to get a meal on the table it sometimes feels like a hassle rather than a help.  So, it was nice to just relax and enjoy the baking process together (and of course we REALLY enjoyed getting to eat the results!)
